Oh, hey Friday!

Has anyone else noticed that it's a crisp 78 degrees outside today? Umm.... yes, please! It feels amazing. So excited for Friday and a weekend at home. We have a whole lot of nothing planned, and I am so excited... for my feet up on the porch and a cool glass of vino in my hand. Heaven!  In jotting down my random thoughts for today, I came across the "Oh hey, Friday" link-up and thought I would join in the fun. So here goes my five on friday.

ONE

We had a guest at the Lyons' den for the week, which is always fun. Stu-dog was in town working and crashed with us. We tried out some fun new dishes for supper and just enjoyed catching up Monday/Tuesday.

TWO

Wednesday I hosted a girls' night Walk and Wobble. It was such a great evening with the gals...

I made these delicious lemon cupcakes to celebrate Kara's birthday!

The ladies catching up after our walk with some sangria.

Our spread.

THREE

...and we had a special guest join us too! Mary Mac made her first Walk and Wobble appearance all the way from C'ville.

She loved her visit {of many to come, I hope!} to Aunt T and Uncle J's! It's always fun to catch up with the ladies... and the weather was just to die-for.

FOUR

Last night we decided to hit up the Rockbridge County Fair to see John Anderson. Yes, straight tequila nights and seminole wind John Anderson indeed.

FIVE

We just had to stop on the midway for some corn dogs and chicken on a stick.
mustache or chicken on a stick?

Stu, Jesse, and I soaking up the sights.

Happy Friday friends! Hope the weekend in good to you and brings you an abundance of rest and joy.

Vaca to the lower Gulf Coast

Who knew that the gulf coast had another great beach area besides the north coast?? Ok, just kidding... I'm not that biased. Yes, I love my sugar white sandy beaches... but when I live 1000's of miles away, just about any sand and water will do these days. Last week I was in for a treat though. The hubs had a work trip to Naples and I got to tag along!  The best part of his work trips is that I usually also get to squeeze in some work - which allows for more networking with my vendors, visiting with old friends in the business, and less time away that I have to actually use as vacation time. Who really gets enough vac a house anyway... 2 weeks a year, come on? Some how I breeze through mine easily year after year. I never understood those folks that had so much vacation time built up come June 30 that they lost it... not I. Maybe I'm just a big fan of weekend trips and Friday afternoons?

Anyways, back to our vacation... Naples was just beautiful!  Check out the view from our room at the Waldorf Astoria Naples.  It was gorgeous!

Yes, I could take my coffee with this view every morning, thank you very much!

The property was surrounded by water, mangroves, and other fancy resorts... I got out for a couple runs through the adjacent neighborhoods and beaches and also spent some time at the pool... where we tried out the water slides and toasted ourselves many afternoons... with cold bevs and also on our shoulders.  We had an early morning golf outing while we were there too... such a beautiful course!

at the Naples Grand Golf Club.

On Thursday we packed away our work bags and headed up the coast to explore. Our first stop was Bonita Beach for a late lunch at the Fish House

Next stop was the Lighthouse on Sanibel Island. Such a cool old structure that dates back to the 1800's, it's the first lighthouse along the florida coast north of the Dry Tortugas.

Sanibel was a really neat island with lots to see and do! But we were ready for some beach time and headed further north along the coast to Captiva Island.

Where checked into South Seas Island Resort for a 3-night stay.  Y'all, this resort was huge. It was literally half of the island. Beaches, pools, golf, tennis, fishing, you name it.

There was so much to do and see, we beached it, spent time at the pools, ran, walked the golf course and the beach a few different times. It was heavenly.  Who can beat this view from your chair?
Where you overlooked the water as well... right where the dolphins like to play for us each afternoon.

We enjoyed late nights and early mornings just soaking up the view from our balcony.
...right on the water!

Ate lots of good food and soaked up as much sun and relaxation as possible.

And now we are back to reality! It was a fabulous week at the beach and I am so thankful for the short times we are able to get away and spend a little time together with just us!

Stars and Bars Party Invite

The holiday weekend is upon us and for many of you, I know that means parties, cookouts, fireworks, and an extra day off work! I wanted to share this cute invite, in case you have any last minute parties to throw together.

I'm looking forward to spending the weekend at home with the hubs and one of my besties, who is arriving tonight! I'm so looking forward to some relaxation in the sun and all the local festivities that are so much fun to watch. The kids bike parade is my favorite.... o the joy of small town living!

Cheers to the 4th y'all!

House Remodeling: Kitchen Cabinets

I wanted to catch everyone up to speed on the house renovations. I'm excited to say that we are moved in and most of our big projects are complete! One of the biggest projects we tackled was the kitchen and specifically the kitchen cabinets, which is what I wanted to share with you today.

We knew in order to make the house {and that room in particular} feel totally different, a change in the cabinets would make the biggest difference.

First for a glimpse at the old kitchen...
After removing all the collegiate mugs {and christmas decor} from the top of the cabinets, we decided to make them a little taller by adding crown molding.
We also added a center island to create more countertop space.
{More to come on the island. It was a super easy addition that is going to be awesome.}
Next was the painting of the walls and cabinets. After painting for weeks-on-end ourselves, we decided to hire a professional to do the main room, including the cabinets. {ho-rah!}

New appliances really sealed the deal... you can see the old white vs. the new stainless.
Amazing difference!
old.
vs.
new!
The countertops are the last piece of the puzzle that we are waiting on and those should arrive late July. My other big decision that I need everyone's advice on... should we leave the door off the first cabinet and paint the inside to create some fun shelves for coffee, or close it up?
Hope you enjoyed the transformation thus far. I can't wait to share more pics after our countertops and island are in and complete!

The Centennial Ball

I guess I should first say, happy July! For those of you that follow along pretty frequently you will notice that June was a hectic month for me, for work and for play. We moved on June 1, celebrated O∆K's Centennial the following week, when my parents also came to visit. Then I headed to Nashville for a week in what we affectionately like to call Panda-land. It was a whirlwind of a month and I am happy to say - I am still standing!

Today, I wanted to share with you some pictures from the centennial ball that I planned for Omicron Delta Kappa's one hundred year anniversary. I thought maybe some of you could steal some ideas for weddings or parties.  It was a blast to plan and turned out just beautiful!
